Yes, we ask that all volunteers sign up for shifts in advance so that we can plan for a great volunteer experience.  Please do not arrive to volunteer unless to you have previously signed up for an available shift.  We appreciate our volunteers and want to be respectful of their time! 

Age and training requirements vary among programs and volunteer roles.  As a general rule, volunteers must be 12 years old with an adult at our Food Pantry sites and 14 years old with an adult at our Faith Mission sites.  Volunteer roles may require on-the-spot, self-led, virtual or in-person training.  Please check each volunteer opportunity for age and training requirements.

For safety reasons, we are unable to work with young children at our program volunteer sites, but there are many ways families, classrooms and youth groups can engage children in making an impact at LSS.  Whether it is organizing a food drive, making shelter kits or helping to prepare a meal or treats for shelter residents, children of all ages can support the work of LSS.  Please click here to learn more about opportunities for kids to get involved in service.

Our shelter sites operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  While we offer volunteer opportunities on holidays, these volunteer shifts fill well in advance.  Please plan to sign up early if you would like to volunteer on a holiday.

Because of the nature of the services provided at CHOICES and the need for safety and confidentiality, opportunities for the community to participate in services, activities or events in shelter are extremely limited. We work with a small number of highly engaged partners inside the shelter and offer opportunities for the community to support CHOICES through various projects outside of the shelter.
